Lessons

Clubkite conducts kite boarding lessons. There are two kite boarding seasons in South East Asia. The north east monsoon from December thru March and the south west monsoon from July thru September. Our lessons are scheduled well within the expected monsoon period. We do not schedule lessons at the very start or tail end of the monsoon period. This is to ensure that students have the highest chance of getting good consistent trade winds during their course.

Lesson Plans

The most popular is our 2 day introductory course which is held over Thursdays and Fridays and the weekend course which is over Saturdays and Sundays. It must be stressed that the 2 day course is an introductory course only. The lesson pace is fast to cover as much as possible. SGD600 / person - includes ferry, hotel & equipment.

The three day course follows IKO lesson plans up to level two kite boarder. The first two days lessons are conducted together with the two day course and most of the third day is spent on board starts. SGD900 / person - includes ferry, hotel & equipment.

Get a group of four for lessons at SGD1800 for two day introductory course or SGD2000 for a weekend course

Equipment

Having the best possible equipment to learn kite boarding is essential. Clubkite source only the best equipment available for instruction.

We start you off with the Ocean Rodeo 2m SLE kite. This is a mini scaled down version of a full size kite. This means that you will get the most realistic training possible right from the very start.

We then progress you on to the Flysurfer Pulse 2 which is a very suitable kite for learning as well as for our wind conditions as it is easy handling, superb light wind kite.

Quote - "With the Pulse 2, I can teach 90% of the time as opposed to 50% with normal kites." Unquote. Phil Bedford - IKO Level 2 instructor, Dubai. Even during the monsoon period, winds are often too light for normal kites. This is why Clubkite uses Flysurfer ramair kites which need much less wind.

We also have at our disposal the Flysurfer Speed 3 12m and Speed 3 15m for more advanced students. The Speed 3 is the most advanced light wind machine and also not to forget they're easily the most expensive kites in the world. If there is any wind at all, you'll get your lesson.

Of course we also provide all life vest and helmets for safety.

Lesson schedule

Unlike most kite board centers, our lesson start times are flexible. Most kite board centers plan the day's schedule the night before. If you book a morning session and the wind only starts blowing in the afternoon, you probably won't get a lesson unless there is an instructor available and that instructor may not be your own instructor. At Clubkite, we schedule only four students per day per instructor. If the wind starts in the morning, then the practical starts in the morning and students can practice on their own after lessons. If there is no wind, lesson start time is pushed back until the wind arrives.

Why Bintan?

We conduct our courses in Bintan, Indonesia. We feel that Singapore is not a condusive place to conduct kite board lessons. Bintan on the other hand is perfect. It has warm shallow water, consistent trade winds, safe sandy bottom without any nasty sea creatures, no rip tides or shore break, it hardly even has current. Very few places in the world can compare to Bintan for learning kite boarding. for example a student learning in Bintan can typically practice ten to 15 board starts per hour while at beaches with shore break, seaweed or deep water, a student may only get to practice two to 5 board starts per hour. Thats less than half of what you can do in perfect conditions. The shallow water also allows the practicing student to stand up after falling, and try again immediately with the instructor standing close by. The other student can also be in the water assisting the instructor and listening in. This is not possible in deep water beaches. This is actually why some kite centers boast of having a student instructor ratio of 1:1. Because its very difficult or impossible for one instructor to teach more than one student in deep water with waves or strong current.

Weekday lessons in Singapore - January & February only

weekday lessons can be arranged in Singapore during the weekdays when it is less crowded. You may want to book a lesson to polish up on certain skills like self rescue or body dragging . However do note that the police do, from time to time, stop all kite boarding activities. We encourage all new comers to start lessons in Bintan as your progression will be much faster. In Singapore we conduct lessons in Changi beach Car park 6. its also a great place to watch kite surfers in action during Jan and February.

Safety

We incalcate safe kiting practices into our students from the very start. We do this by introducing safe procedures and drills from the trainer kite stage and maintain the same procedures thru to full size kites. We provide all the personal safety equipment, helmets, life vest and harnesses in all sizes. Use of safety equipment is mandatory. Your instructor is also a certified first-aider.

Children

We accept children for private instruction, but they must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. We do not accept children for group courses as the group courses are structured for adult students and as such are very fast paced. Lessons for children are paced at a much slower rate with more emphasis on learning and understanding thru practical exercises.

Special needs students

We accept special needs students on a case by case basis and only for private instruction.
